EVENT HUB

Welcome to the official event page for the 2025 Canadian Functional Fitness National Championships, happening July 19-20 at the Hybrid Athletics in Vancouver, BC and TeamLDN Training Center in London, Ontario. This is your one-stop hub for athletes, teams, volunteers, brand partners, media, and spectators.

About…

  • The National Championship events are run by the Canadian Functional Fitness Federation—the official National Sport Organization (NSO) operating under the International Functional Fitness Federation (IF3). These events serve to qualify the top 3 athletes in each division for the IF3 World Championships:

To minimize travel costs and ensure the best athletes across Canada qualify (not just from the East or West), we are running the same competition simultaneously in two locations, using a shared leaderboard.

The goal of the federation is to establish this event and it’s dates long term to not only provide a consistent competition season for it’s athletes. but to help us qualify for Sport Canada specific funding only made available to National Sport Organizations like ours.

Once we achieve certain milestones as a federation, the funding that becomes available will help us with athlete travel costs, technical official training, and more. We are committed to the long term development of this sport, and this event in order to achieve our goal of becoming the Sport Canada recognized NSO for the sport of Functional Fitness.

    Examples of other NSOs.

    NSO Grant & Funding opportunities

  • While this is our first large-scale Nationals event since COVID, the CFFF Board and Nationals Committee are made up of experienced Functional Fitness event organizers, coaches, and internationally trained Technical Officials. The team last ran the 2022 IF3 Maters & Junoirs national championships at the Richmond Oval, which saw over 450 athletes travel in from around the world, and it was a huge success.

Our mission is to use this event to increase awareness of Functional Fitness as a sport in Canada, which is a key step toward unlocking Sport Canada government funding. This funding will allow us to deliver consistent, high-quality events for years to come, and without relying on private companies or donations, ensuring that athletes experience and safety can remain our top priority.

Though attendance at this event may not top 400+ athletes like we hope, we’re looking at it as the jumping off point for multiple years of this event to grow from utilizing the same date and locations for years to come.

  • The first goal of this event and of our federation, is to ensure that the best athletes possible qualify to represent Canada at the International Functional Fitness Federation World Championships.

    🌍 IF3 Masters & Juniors World Championships

    • 📍 Brisbane Showgrounds, Australia

    • 📅 November 21-23, 2025

    🌍 IF3 Senior World Championships

    • 📍 Lithuania

    • 📅 December 2025 (exact dates TBA)

The second goal of this event, and our federation, is to work towards Sport Canada approval and being recognized official as the NSO for the sport. This opens the door for government funding that would allow us to pay professional athletes, training and travel costs, and so much more. It also opens the door to school program integrations and long term athlete development and support.

This will be kept updated as questions come in. If you have any questions (or feedback) contact info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca.

  • Our goal s the NSO for Canadian Functional Fitness is to ensure the best talent available qualifies to represent Canada at the IF3 World Championships.

We know that expecting athletes to travel across the country and then travel to worlds is a lot to ask, so we’re running 2 locations to alleviate travel costs as much as possible.

We are utilizing a shared leaderboard because we do not want this to be a ‘west vs east’ competition. Typically events would give spots to the top 1-2 east and top 1-2 west, but we want to ensure its the top 3 from either that go on to the next stage.

  • Scores for each event will not go live on the leaderboard until both locations have completed all heats of that event. This way nobody will have an advantage being able to see times to beat etc from the other time domains.

This also means we will not be able to announce final winners until both events have fully wrapped up.

  • Update: YES!

In order to work towards our goal of National Sport Organization recognition from Sport Canada and increase athlete registration, as well as ensure the best talen possible represents Canada on the world stage, we have removed the qualifier requirement completely and opened registration to all athletes who believe they have what it takes.

  • The $15 / year annual athlete membership is required to take part in any and all CFFF sanctioned events. This nominal fee goes towards our non profit to help us grow and develop the sport. If you have registered for a membership via cfff.fit - it should auto renew annually through stripe (unless you disabled it).

Please note: membership purchases (via stripe) always show they are from BCFFSA, ignore this. That was the account it was originally set up under, and the banks make it very hard to change (payment still goes to CFFF).

FFL atheltes do NOT require a membership to compete (but we encourage your support).

  • Our goal as non profit governing body of the sport is to help raise the bar in standard of competition, not size.

We have made the difficult decision that we will be able to provide a higher quality competition and event for our athletes by changing venues to Hybrid Athletics.

You can view the full update from the president HERE.

  • You will never have to compete alone. Even if you’re the only person registered in your division at your location, we will ensure you have a full heat of athletes to compete alongside!

Scores from both EAST and WEST events will be made public as soon as all athletes in both locations have completed the workouts. We understand this isn’t the same as competing side by side, but it's our current best method to reduce athlete travel costs until we can access funding to help with that.

If your division has three or fewer athletes across both locations, you will still need to meet our strict minimum work requirements to qualify. Our programming director is one of the top coaches in Canada, so we can promise qualifying will not be easy, even in a smaller division.

  • Don’t hesitate to contact us and we will provide anwers and updates as quickly as possible.

    info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca

  • Currently our primary focus is on our Technical Official training and ensuring they are ready to provide top quality and consistent no-reps.

For athletes, we will be releasing full workout details, flow, standards, at the same time we begin our TO training on Sunday July 13th. We encourage you to review those in detail and reach out with any questions.

We will continue to post updates and answer questions throughout the week, but if needed we can also hold a ‘virtual athlete brief’ on Friday before the weekend.

Our goal is to provide such detailed breakdowns of workouts, movements and standards far enough in advance that a full brief will not be needed - but since we’re here for the athletes, we’ll provide one if requested!

  • Spectator tickets will be by donation with a recommended donation of $15 (or via purchase of an Athlete Annual Membership)

At the entry of either event will be a form to fill out your name and email address so we can add you into our system.

After the event we will send out reminders / requests for you to purchase an Athlete Annual membership or make a donation (optional).

  • Athletes are NOT required to attend the Friday night check-in, we make this available as the team will be there setting up.

If you do not check-in on Friday night, we ask you to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to first event brief on Saturday to check-in.

Currently event 1 brief is scheduled for 7:45 AM. Full detailed schedule & heats will be posted by end of day Monday July 14th.
