2026 Season National Championship Dates & Qualification Pathways (updated 2026.05.19)

We are excited to officially launch the framework for the 2026 season.

This year marks an important step forward as we formally rebrand back to CF3 to align with International Functional Fitness Federation standards and structure. The rebrand reflects more than a name change. It represents our continued commitment to governance alignment, long-term athlete development, and building a sustainable national system that meets Sport Canada requirements.

Alongside this shift, we are transitioning toward a project-driven leadership model that opens the door for more community members to contribute to the growth of Functional Fitness in Canada.

If you want to help shape the future of the sport, 2026 is your opportunity.

IMPORTANT: TO RECEIVE YOUR 2026 CF3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS INVITE…
(if you qualify via any method other than the online qualifier)

In order to recieve your 2026 CF3 National Championships invite to register via Circle 21 (based on the dates and deadlines below, or posted here) you MUST CONFIRM YOU PLAN TO ATTEND by RSVPing to the event you plan to attend.

Even if you are not 100% on registration (ie waiting for location) this will give us an idea of how many athletes plan to attend at each location, determine how many spots to try to backfill, and ensure we have the most up to date contact info for all athletes who qualified (especially if you qualified via CF Semi Finals).

Save the Dates

To maintain accessibility and reduce travel costs for athletes, we will continue our decentralized hosting model.

For 2026, we are targeting:

This approach allows more athletes to compete nationally without excessive financial burden while we continue pursuing long-term funding solutions which become more accessible with the more athletes the CF3 sends to compete at IF3 worlds.

2026 Qualification Pathways

For the 2026 season, we are introducing a multi-path qualification model. Our goal is to support and elevate existing Functional Fitness competitions across Canada rather than duplicating them.

Please note: CF3 qualification processes apply to provinces whose qualifying process is NOT already managed by their provincial organization. For 2026, Quebec manages its own qualification process; all other provinces will qualify via methods listed below.

2026 CrossFit Open Semi Finals

Top Canadian athletes who advance to the Semifinal stage of the CrossFit Open will have the option to bypass our 2026 CF3 Nationals Online Qualfier and to register directly for CF3 National Championships.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because we do not automatically receive contact info, Semifinal invite applications are open until June 15th (the end of our online qualifier) (survey link coming soon).

Official invites to register via Circle21 will then go out with the First Wave (~June 24th), and athletes must register by July 1st.

Note: Quebec athletes are not eligible for this pathway due to existing provincial qualification process.

Quebec Provincial Championships - Apply to recieve your invite

The top 5 athletes in each division at the Quebec Provincial Championships will be invited to CF3 Nationals.
Official invites will be sent out as soon as registration is ready, Quebec athletes will be included in the First Wave: June 22 to June 28), and the registration deadline will be July 1st.

Note: This is for Quebec athletes only, and all Quebec athletes must qualify via their provincial sport organization's pathway.

Podium Finishers at Established Competitions

2026-04-26 UPDATE: After the most recent Nationals Committee meeting—since we have not been able to sanction events like we had planned for the 2026 season, we are postponing this option for qualification.

Top Canadian finishers at high-quality Functional Fitness events may qualify. To be considered as a CF3 qualifying event, competitions must:

  • Not be in their first year

  • Not be an in-house only competition

  • Include at least 50 percent participation from outside gyms

  • Offer an Rx or Competitive division

  • Maintain a strong reputation for safety and event quality

If you run an event that meets these standards, submit it to our Events page (or contact us) as soon as possible so we can assess it for qualification status. Note: Quebec athletes are not eligible for this pathway unless individually approved by their PSO.

CF3 Online Qualifier: June 2 - June 15 - Compete to receive your invite

Your chance to qualify to compete at the 2026 CF3 National Championships as a competitive athlete!
2 weeks to complete 6 tests following the IF3 format. Submissions close strictly on June 15 at 10:00 PM.

Save the dates! First Wave Invites Registration will run from June 22 to June 28, and Backfill Invites Registration will run from June 29 to July 6.

Note: Quebec athletes are not eligible for this pathway due to existing provincial qualification alignment.

5. 2025 IF3 World Championship Competitors - Apply to recieve your invite

The Nationals Committee has finalized their decision to continue allowing previous year's IF3 Worlds Competitors an automatic spot to compete at 2026 CF3 National Championships. In order to qualify to bypass the qualifiers, you must have not only qualified for 2025 IF3 Worlds but also attended.

If you qualify for the 2026 CF3 National Championships via this method, we hope that this will free you up to assist your fellow athletes to complete the 2026 CF3 National Championship qualifiers! Eligible athletes will receive their official registration links during the First Wave registration period (June 22 to June 28).

For the Quebec Provincial Championships; instead of automatic invites for previous competitors, we will open up an additional spot in each division based on how many competitors there are in the division that meet this requirement. IE if a division has 2 athletes in it that went to 2025 IF3 Worlds, that division will have 7 invites (instead of the standard 5). The 2025 Team Canada list can be found here.

Community Division Registration - Register before space fills up!

Once the qualifying athlete registration is closed, any remaining venue capacity at the host locations will be opened to the public as a Community Division (Rx/Scaled). Registration for the Community Division will be open from July 7 to July 27.

National Championship Hosting Opportunities

Until we secure federal funding to assist with athlete travel, we will continue building on last year’s successful multi-location format. We are actively seeking facilities and organizations interested in hosting a CF3 National Championship site in 2026.

If you have:

  • A competition-ready facility

  • Event organization experience

  • Capacity for regional-scale competition

Contact us now and save the August 14 to 16 dates. Contact info@functionalfitnessfederation.ca for a copy of the full hosting requirements.

Join the CF3 Project Committees

As part of our governance evolution, we are moving away from a board-heavy structure and toward a project-based committee model. These roles are:

  • High impact

  • Low barrier

  • Approximately 2 to 4 hours per month

We are currently prioritizing recruitment for:

  • Domestic Development: Supports national growth through social media, content creation, advertising, partnerships, and branding.

  • National Championships Committee: Oversees event planning, operations, standards implementation, and execution of the 2026 Championships.

  • Event Operations and Sanctioning: Works with existing Functional Fitness competitions to improve judging consistency, movement standards, and athlete experience across Canada.

Additional roles and open positions are listed via the Committees page. If you want to contribute meaningfully to the sport without taking on a full board commitment, this is your opportunity.

Why These Changes Matter

Every structural change we are making, from decentralized Nationals to structured qualification pathways and project committees, is designed to move CF3 closer to full National Sport Organization recognition. By building a transparent, consistent, and governance-aligned system, we strengthen our case for:

  • Federal recognition

  • Government grants

  • Travel subsidies for athletes

  • National standardization of competition

The 2026 season is about building the foundation for long-term growth. If you are an athlete, event organizer, coach, judge, volunteer, or supporter, there is a place for you in this system. Help us build a version of the sport that Canadian athletes deserve
